01

Scenario

Following an accidental event that resulted in soil and groundwater contamination at an industrial site, the Client requested our support in carrying out environmental technical activities to assist with the legal management of the proceedings.

02

Solution

We supported the client in site characterization and monitoring by combining document analysis, site inspections, ground-penetrating radar surveys, chemical compound studies, and environmental monitoring to ensure regulatory compliance, worker safety, and the assessment of any potential impacts from neighboring production activities.

Activities

  • Support for document analysis, on-site assistance during inspections/sampling by Public Authorities/Regulatory Bodies, technical/regulatory verification of activities performed by third-party companies, support/verification of waste management and wastewater discharge activities, and preparation of technical reports.
  • Ground-penetrating radar (GPR) investigation to verify pipes/underground utilities entering and exiting the site area.
  • Study of chemical compounds historically and currently used at the plant, aimed at identifying the Contaminants of Concern (CoCs) which, based on their toxicological characteristics and environmental fate/behavior, were included in the site Characterization Plan as specifically requested by the Regulatory Bodies.
  • Coordination of indoor/outdoor air quality monitoring activities to assess workers' inhalation exposure in areas outside the site affected by the incident.
  • Execution of a targeted survey to characterize the types of production activities in the areas surrounding the site, in order to assess the "interference potential" on environmental monitoring parameters, associated with the presence of chemical agents potentially used in the production cycles and operations of neighboring companies in the industrial area.
